Equally you lot tin can come across they had been gathering grit for quite some time. Merely I actually didn't want to throw them away as I thought with a little TLC they would make quite proficient storage pieces.
I chose the smallest wicker handbasket to have a go with first and decided to go with a simple white and grey design then that they would fit in with the rest of our dwelling decor.
Upcycled Wicker Basket Makeover Steps
Here's what I did(including the mistakes I fabricated and what I would do differently side by side time)
Step 1
First I gave the wicker basket a wash with some warm soapy water then I allowed information technology to dry out completely.
Step 2
When I decided to do this my trusty spray pigment supply was upwardly only me existence every bit impatient equally e'er decided to only become alee and paint it with some white acrylic pigment that I had sitting in my craft room.
Using a normal ii″ pigment castor I had to requite it iii layers in total to completely cover it. I really found this a bit deadening as painting in all the nooks and crannies with a paint brush was quite time consuming (note to self – next time wait until I accept a can of spray paint 😉 ).
Initially I wanted to pigment three stripes in the centre of the basket (ane thick and two thinner stripes). I used masking tape to block the areas I wanted to keep white ….. but unfortunately this did not work! The lines were actually wobbly and uneven so I ended upwardly just advisedly painting straight lines (without record) up to the bamboo strips and filling in the middle $.25 completely.
(when I paint the other two baskets I will make certain I just use the thicker bamboo strips as guidelines)
Footstep three
I immune this to dry out.
Then I used some black/grayness pigment for the handles and some golden paint mixed with a tiny touch of black on the clasps to give information technology a bit of a bronzed metallic feel.

I also wanted to jazz the front end up but wasn't sure what to utilize.
So I played effectually with a few different options and and then came up with the idea of using burlap squares.
First I cut 2 squares, one slightly larger than the other.
So I painted the smaller square with the white acrylic paint.
When dry I glued them onto the forepart of the basket and started looking for something to add to the eye.

After hunting around the house for something to stick on the front I found this paper 'home' paradigm. This was not what I had in mind exactly merely I stuck it on as a temporary solution until I can notice or make something that I like amend.
(I think it would look smashing with an embroidered or stamped pattern on a piece of linen or a stamped metal tag)
I still accept 2 more baskets to makeover but am thinking of doing these in dissimilar colours to match my daughter's room.
